Dozens of people were killed and wounded in a car bomb explosion in Mogadishu

Al Masirah Net: 9 people were killed and at least 20 others were injured, according to a preliminary toll, today, Monday, as a result of a car bomb explosion in a crowded area in the Somali capital, Mogadishu.

Police spokesman, Major Abdel Fattah Adam Hassan, said in a statement to the official media that a car bomb targeted the “Top Coffee” restaurant located near the Unknown Soldier Monument in Bunitiri District in the capital, Mogadishu. Hassan explained that in his initial report that the explosion occurred, more than 20 others were injured with varying injuries, indicating that the official assessment of the damage resulting from the accident is still ongoing. He pointed out that some citizens were watching the final match of the European Nations Championship “Euro 2024” between the teams of Spain and England inside the café when the car bomb exploded outside. No party claimed responsibility for the bombing, but the Takfiri group Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for similar bombings in previous times. Earlier, the Somali government revealed that 47 members of the Al-Shabaab movement were killed, including a prominent leader and 5 army soldiers, in a military operation in the “Ail Tir” region in the center of the country, after the army carried out a precise ambush. Early this month, the Takfiri group claimed responsibility for a suicide car bombing, targeting a military base for the Djiboutian forces affiliated with the African Union Transitional Mission in Atmis, central Somalia.
